Garibaldi Glass is a privately held, well established Burnaby based glass fabrication facility currently employing approximately 180 staff and servicing international markets. Garibaldi is a leading glass fabricator in a modern 160,000 square foot facility. We are a make to order facility with short lead times. The company is on a journey to becoming world class and is employing continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to achieve this.


We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer to be based at our office in Burnaby, BC. This position reports to the Project Leader, is part of the AutoCad Department and works closely with the Sales and Fabrication team.


• Plan, schedule and manufacture structural systems.
• Analyze quotes to actual project requirements, ensuring accurate costing.
• Establish acceptable quality control levels, control measures, and quality assurance.
• Coordinate and oversee the scheduling, work sequencing and all other aspects of the day to day manufacture of projects to meet customer demands.
• Work with the Sales team to design and develop processes from drawing to production.
• Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets and other data, utilizing computer-assisted design (CAD), according to customer specifications.
• Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
• Write technical reports.
• Prepare production specifications.
• Coordinate materials and supplies.
• Assist with planning; organizing of the manufacturing process flow and ensuring timeframes are met.
• Other tasks and projects as assigned by Manager.


Education & Experience:

• Post-secondary education in Mechanical Design.
• 1 to 3 years drafting experience using AutoCAD software in a manufacturing environment.
• Glazing or metal fabrication experience is considered an asset.
• Experience with Digitizing Table and Forcam programming language is considered an asset.
• Experience with CNC machines operation and programming is considered an asset.
• Mechanical aptitude is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent communication, problem solving and customer relations skills
• Must be proficient with AutoCAD (2007 edition) — 2 dimensional illustrations & SolidWorks
• Have excellent technical writing abilities
• Intermediate MS Excel skills and other Microsoft Office Applications
• Must be highly organized, adaptable and able to work to meet deadlines
• Strong mathematical skills
• Lean Manufacturing experience an asset
• Good technical knowledge of fabrication processes
